This film, out in March, casts new light on the Miners Strike of 1984 from the striking miner’s point of view.
‘Dole not Coal – The Striker’s Story’ pays testimony to the people and politicians supporting the strike, together with the cause and effect to the striking miners in a dispute unimaginable in modern Britain, but one that has seemingly faded from recent memory for all but those directly involved.
To paraphrase Tony Benn in the film: this was effectively a civil war against the working class, carried out as recently as under the last Conservative government.
